The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Friday suspended India from hosting future Olympic-related events after the country denied visa to two Pakistani athletes who were set to compete at International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) Shooting World Cup.

IOC in an official statement said that since becoming aware of the situation that has developed in the wake of the Pulwama Attack, the committee held discussions with the Indian government authorities to allow the Pakistani delegation to enter India, but it was not possible.

The decision to not grant the Pakistani athletes a visa has proved costly for India. "As a result, the IOC Executive Board also decided to suspend all discussions with the Indian NOC and government regarding the potential applications for hosting future sports and Olympic-related events in India," the IOC statement announced.

The committee has also written to all sporting federations to not host any events in India unless the country’s government provides a written guarantee that it will provide access to all athletes.

"This happened in the interest of the other 500 athletes from 61 countries participating in the other events who are already in India for their competition," the statement further said.

Tensions between Pakistan and India are on the rise since the Pulwama Attack, in which 44 Indian para-military soldiers were killed in an attack in occupied-Kashmir.

Ever since, India has launched an anti-Pakistan campaign banning Pakistani artists, stopping tomato export to the country among other moves.
