The Punjab government has indefinitely extended the ban on meetings with prisoners at Adiala Jail, citing security concerns. This decision follows earlier restrictions that were in place from October 4 to 18, and then briefly extended for two more days.
The ban affects all prisoners, but it seems particularly focused on high-profile political inmates, including Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), his wife Bushra Bibi, and senior PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
Recently, Adiala Jail officials denied claims from PTI about mistreatment of Imran Khan. They provided details about the meals he receives while incarcerated. According to jail authorities, Imran has been in prison for over a year and is being treated well. They stated he has access to uninterrupted electricity, regular meals, and opportunities for exercise.
Imran's meals are prepared by a professional cook and include a variety of foods tailored to his preferences. For breakfast, he is served coffee, chia seeds, beetroot juice, yogurt, chapati, biscuits, and dates. Lunch consists of traditional curry, local chicken, chapati, salad, and mutton, while dinner includes porridge, coconut, coconut juice, and grapes. All meals are prepared under strict supervision.
Regarding his health, jail officials reported that Imran is examined three times a day by an in-house doctor, and recent medical tests confirm he is healthy and active. Medical staff from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences also checked on him and confirmed his good health just two days ago.
In addition to meals and health check-ups, Imran receives daily newspapers and exercises for two hours each day. The authorities emphasized that the security arrangements for inmates in B-Class are thorough, countering rumors of isolation or mistreatment. They labeled the claims circulating in social media and political circles as “baseless” and affirmed that Imran's living conditions meet all legal requirements.
