UN Restores Pakistan's Status As Family Nation For Its International Staff

ISLAMABAD: The United Nations has restored Pakistan's status as a family nation for its international staff. In a letter to Pakistan's permanent Ambassador to the UN, Maleeha Lodhi, the United Nations International Service commission stated that the non-family status of Islamabad duty station has been discontinued.



"I warmly welcome the decision", said Foreign Minister Qureshi in one of his tweets.

The decision comes after the evaluation of the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nation's Department of Safety and Security. The Under-Secretary evaluated the security situation in Islamabad and recommended to lift the family restrictions.

Ambassador Lodhi in a reply to Qureshi's tweet stated,

"This is a positive development on which we all worked together."

Director General of military Inter-Services Public Relations department Major General Asif Ghafoor in one his tweets termed UN's decision as a 'tangible acknowledgment' for Pakistan.
