LAHORE: Actors Iffat Rahim, Ali Gul Pir and 15 others have been issued summon notices by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on the allegation of passing ‘defamatory’ remarks about singer/actor Ali Zafar.

The singer was accused of sexual harassment by Meesha Shafi after which Ali filed a defamation case against her.

Sources inside FIA confirmed that the actor had approached the agency’s cybercrime wing to submit an application against Iffat Omar, Ali Gul and others for 'maligning' him over social media by sharing different pictures and video clips. Ali Zafar termed the entire episode as a ‘conspiracy’ to tarnish his image.

Other people summoned by the FIA in light of the application include Fareeha Ayub, Maham Javed, Subha Gillani and Mohsin Syed, who will record their statements next week, while Iffat Omar has already recorded her statement with the agency.

FIA Lahore Cyber Crime Deputy Director Chaudhary Sarfaraz, while talking to a local English newspaper, confirmed that Ali Zafar had submitted an application with their cyber crime division seeking immediate action on his complaint. Sarfaraz said that the cyber crime wing has acted upon the complaint per law.

Recent Developments

Talking to media persons outside a court last month, Ali Zafar had ‘claimed’ that he was being targeted on social media through fake accounts in an effort to destroy his image.

Ali had also said that a fake campaign had been launched against him on social media platforms, while adding that, “Meesha Shafi’s lawyer has also become a part of the campaign against him by following and retweeting fake accounts.”

He further said that he was being wrongfully accused of sexual harassment and claimed that he was ‘innocent’. He also accused Shafi and others of targeting him for personal gains only.
