A woman who was operated on by a security guard posing as doctor at Lahore's Mayo Hospital two weeks ago has passed away.
According to police, 80-year-old Shameema Begum passed away on Sunday two weeks after Muhammad Waheed Butt, then a security guard at the hospital, tried to treat her by performing a surgery for her back wound. The guard was then fired from the job.
Dawn quoted an administrative official from the hospital as saying that they cannot monitor what all doctors are doing at all times, which is why they could not catch the impostor before he performed the surgery. The official was also uncertain as to what type of surgery was performed, but said that a technician was also present inside the operation theatre at the time of the incident.
