Karachi University Professor Jailed For 8 Years For Harassing Female Colleague Online
A University of Karachi professor who served as an assistant professor at the varsity's psychology department was sentenced to eight years in jail after a local court found him guilty of sexually harassing a female colleague on social media.

Dr Farhan Kamrani was convicted of committing an “offence against modesty of a natural person and minor”. He was accused of the same in October 2016.

District and sessions’ judge (East) Khalid Hussain Shahani issued the judgement on Wednesday.

The judge remarked that the prosecution was able to prove the charges against the suspect 'beyond any reasonable shadow of doubt'. In addition to three years' imprisonment, the court asked him to pay a fine of Rs1 million. According to the court, he committed an offence punishable under Section 21 (offences against modesty of a natural person and minor) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.

The convict's female colleague, a teacher at the same university, had lodged a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), saying that a link on the page of Greenwich University was shared, with pornographic pictures made by mixing her photos and using abusive language.

The convict is said to have confessed to the crime during the investigation.
