JUI-F Leader Kifayatullah Goes On Hunger Strike To Protest Alleged Mistreatment In Jail
Incarcerated Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) leader Mufti Kifayatullah has gone on a hunger strike in Haripur jail to protest alleged mistreatment by jail authorities.

He was arrested on April 14 in a raid on his madrassa in Tarangri village of Haripur and has since been in jail.

The JUI-F leader was arrested under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance. Dawn quoted his son Shabbir Mufti as saying that the JUI-F leader required cataract surgery but it was delayed due to his arrest and he has now lost vision in one eye because of the delay. He further said that his father recently said that he was facing problem in the other eye as well and the ophthalmologists who examined him suggested surgery, but the jail authorities did not comply.

According to his son, Kifayatullah is now observing a 'complete' hunger strike against this attitude of the authorities. Dawn reported that the jail authorities deny allegations of any mistreatment.
