FIA Assures Banking Court To Avoid Tareen’s Arrest Sans A Week Notice

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) gave assurance to a banking court on Friday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) estranged leader Jahangir Tareen would not be apprehended in the fake account case without serving a prior notice of a week.

It is pertinent to mention that three days ago, a single member bench of the Lahore High Court extended stay order against operation of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) audit of Jahangir Khan Tareen’s JDW Sugar Mills. The High Court has reserved the verdict on the point whether FBR is competent to conduct audit of a sugar mill unit after expiry of five years statutory period.

Appearing before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rafat Ali Gondal with his counsel on Friday in the matter Tareen requested the judge to issue directives to FIA officials without serving a prior notice of 10 days.

However, a deputy director of the Agency apprised the court that the agency doesn’t need to nab the PTI leader saying the Agency will serve an advance notice to the accused person if there is any need to arrest. Soon after the FIA deputy director assured the court about serving prior notice for arrest, Tareen counsel urged the court to allow him to withdraw his client’s pre-arrest bail application. To which the court disposed of the bail application as withdrawn with directives to FIA to serve seven days prior notice to Tareen before taking any action against him.

Meanwhile, Jahangir Tareen and his son Ali Tareen also withdrew their bail application from another Session Judge court in a money laundering case after the FIA officials assured the court that they didn’t want custody of both the father and the son. “We are currently examining the record”, the FIA officials told the court when submitted if required they will serve a prior notice of a week before nabbing Tareen and his son.

During the course of proceedings, counsel for Tareen apprised the court that no case has been registered against his clients so for. Later, disposing of the bail applications, the court directed the FIA authorities that the Agency will have to serve a ten-day prior notice to the PTI leader and his son, if their arrest is required in the money laundering case.
