Chief of the recently banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) Saad Hussain Rizvi has reportedly been released from Kot Lakhpat jail hours after the government reached an agreement with the group.
Dawn quoted a public relations officer as saying that Rizvi went to Yateem Khana Chowk after his release. The TLP had been holding a sit-in at the Yateem Khana Chowk where it is headquartered.
It was also reported that the TLP chief is likely to address party supporters soon.
A jail superintendent, however, told media that Rizvi was not released. The development has not been confirmed by the government yet. Some sources said that Rizvi would not be released.
Saad Rizvi was detained last week when the TLP announced protest against French ambassador. His arrest prompted violent protests by the group across the country. Four policemen were killed in the riots while more than 600 sustained injuries. The TLP had also taken 11 policemen hostage who were released after the first round of negotiation held on Monday succeeded.
