Faisalabad's Allied Hospital is reported to be no longer accepting critical Covid patients due to a shortage of beds. Over the weekend, it was reported that 220 beds at the Allied Hospital and 95 at the DHQ Hospital in Faisalabad had been set aside for Covid patients.
As of now, more than a dozen critically-ill Covid patients have been refused treatment due to a lack of beds at Allied Hospital. They have instead been advised to take treatment at home.
The current wave of Covid cases has left the healthcare system in Punjab province straining to contain the pandemic. On Monday, 2,275 new cases and 15 deaths were reported.
In an effort to coordinate the allocation of beds and medical resources to patients in the provincial capital of Lahore, the Punjab government has handed over control of measures to curb the pandemic to the former chief executive officer of Mayo Hospital, Prof Dr Asad Aslam Khan. A Central Corona Control Room has been set up at Mayo Hospital to help direct this effort.
