Justice Isa Seeks Early Resolution Of His SC Petition
Supreme Court judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa has requested the apex court for an early decision in his petition against the June 19 SC verdict that quashed the presidential reference against him. Justice Isa told the bench that he wanted his petition to be concluded soon because one of the bench members, Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik, will be retiring next month.

Stressing the need for an early decision, Justice Isa said, “This case is extremely important as it’s about the accountability of judges and transparency regarding judges conduct.”

He went on to say that the entire nation is watching this case and waiting for the verdict.

Muneer A. Malik, Justice Isa’s counsel wasn’t present at the hearing today. The judge said that he couldn’t come due to his illness. The court however, has sought a written reasoning from Justice Qazi Fae’s Isa’s attorney as to why he wasn’t present at the hearing.

The hearing was adjourned till Tuesday.

Last week, on 26th February, Justice Isa requested that the court allow a live transmission of his case proceeding on the state run channel, PTV.

He had argued that this was practice all over the world and this would also help in proving the transparency of the case.

“To restore a semblance of balance and to correct the public perception, it is submitted that all future proceedings in the petitioner’s case may graciously be directed to be broadcast live, and/or live-streamed. Broadcasting and/or live streaming of court proceedings would be an affirmation of the Fundamental and constitutional rights of the petitioner and of the public. This would also be a testament to accountability and transparency, which in the present case must ruthlessly be pursued,” Justice Isa had written in his application to the Supreme Court.
