Explosion Kills Seven Miners In Harnai, Balochistan

In the second deadly tragedy of its kind this week, seven coal miners were killed by an explosion and resulting fire in the Torghar gas field at Harnai, Balochistan. This comes after a blast last week at a coal mine in the Marwar coalfield in Balochistan which killed six miners.

Resecue workers have recovered the bodies of the miners who were burned to death in the aftermath of an explosion from the build-up of methane gas. They were reported to be working at a depth of some 1,500 feet underground.

Over the past year, 102 miners have lost their lives in a total of 72 different incidents. These include not just loss of life due to poor safety conditions, but also a poor security situation and violence by terrorist organizations operating in the region.
