Senate Polls: How Chaudhrys Of Gujrat Managed To Satisfy Every Party
Pakistan Muslim League - Q (PML-Q) leaders Chaudhry Shujat Hussain and Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi, with their collective effort and political connections, paved the way for an understanding between opposition and the ruling party for Senate elections in Punjab without even bothering the MPAs to cast their votes.

Express Tribune reported that the brothers who were thought to be Kingmakers during during former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s era, have once again proven their merit when it comes to political lobbying.

The Chaudhrys have made sure that every party will get its due share in the Senate polls.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed referring to the Senate elections said, “It was a ‘local operation’ with Ch Parvaiz Elahi playing a pivotal role … everyone got what they wanted, so it was a smooth win-win situation for all parties. [It] shows political pragmatism can trump political polarisation in the most difficult of times.”

No polling will take place for the 11 Senate seats from Punjab because all the candidates were elected unopposed. The winning candidates were nominated for three categories — seven general and two seats each reserved for women and technocrats. The unopposed election of these candidates was made possible after other candidates withdrew their nomination papers. PTI and PML-N have secured five seats each and PML-Q won one seat.
