On the third death anniversary of slain Pashtun youth Naqeebullah Mehsud who was allegedly killed by police on January 13th 2018 in Karachi’s Malir district, his family said they have lost hope for justice.
Naqeebullah’s family and their legal team at a press conference at Karachi Press club said that after three years of seeking justice for their sons death, they are losing hope as there are chances of former Malir SSP Rao Anwar (who is accused of ordering the fake encounter in which Naqeebullah was killed) being acquitted in the murder case.
Rao Anwar along with several other officers was charged with Naqeebullah’s murder. The officers allege he was killed in shootout as they had thought him to be part of Taliban groups.
The family urged Supreme Court to pay attention to case after at least five witnesses had retracted their statements. Naqeebullah’s brother Alam Sher said that their father died hoping justice will prevail in this case but the family is slowly losing all hope for justice to be served.
He recalled empty promises the federal government made about building a college in Naqeebullah’s name but nothing has happened so far. He also urged PM Imran Khan to take notice of the case and show the same rigour he did three years ago when had joined protests in Karachi and Islamabad against Naqeebullah’s murder.
