Anti-Pakistan Hate Speech: Indian Channel Fined £20,000 By UK TV Regulator
India’s Republic TV’s Hindi channel has been fined £20,000 by the British TV watchdog for broadcasting hate speech against Pakistan.
Ofcom is the regulatory body that oversees the broadcasting, telecommunications and postal industries of the UK.
A detailed verdict by Ofcom states that Republic Bharat’s "Poochta Hai Bharat" programme – the show hosted by controversial Indian anchor Arnab Goswami violated rules pertaining to broadcasting.
Gosawami is known for his outbursts against Pakistan and his support for the ruling BJP.
The order further says that the remarks issued by the host and some of his guests were tantamount to hate speech against Pakistani people. It also amounted to derogatory and abusive treatment of Pakistani people, says the verdict.

“The content was also potentially offensive and was not sufficiently justified by the context,” it added.
