One can notice that many Pakistani politicians, journalists and commentators are praising the recently deceased Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) leader Khadim Hussain Rizvi in superlative terms. Words like Allamah, eminent Islamic scholar and Hazrat are being lavishly used to describe him.
Interestingly, until recently, the same people were calling him troublemaker, opportunist and power hungry.
Seeing Mr. Rizvi’s talks and speeches on YouTube and interviews on TV and what he stood for leaves one question unanswered; Why Pakistani elite has all of a sudden become such a fan of Mr. Rizvi and his disruptive thinking.
Do not they know, how he issued threatening warnings against those who condemned the killing od Punjab governor Salman Taseer and how he arranged big demonstrations and sit ins against the death sentence of Mumtaz Qadri who killed Mr. Taseer in cold blood?
For any peace-loving Pakistani, religious representatives who misuse their position to blackmail the state should not be praised or encouraged
