Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari withdrew her earlier remarks that French President Emmanuel Macron was treating Muslims the way Nazis had treated Jews in World War Two.
She had expressed these views in a tweet while sharing an article on the subject.
An account run by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs responded to the minister’s tweet in a statement, terming Mazari’s claims ‘deeply shocking and insulting’.
After French Foreign Minister urged the Pakistan government to withdraw the claims, the minister deleted her tweet. She also tweeted a screenshot of the French envoy’s message to her about the tweet. The article that her tweet linked to was later amended after which the tweet stood false.
