Kohat University Student Tortured By Fellow Students Over Blasphemy Allegations
A student at Kohat University of Science and Technology was tortured by a mob of students on the campus over allegations of posting blasphemous content on Facebook.

The students tried to lynch him when they found him in the classroom. They had reached an agreement with the administration that he would be expelled from the university last month, but when they found him in the class room on Wednesday, they began kicking and punching him.

Vice Chancellor of the university Dr Tasleem Hussain mediated in the matter and took him to his office. He called the police to control the situation on campus after which anti riot police along with armed vehicles reached the campus. However, police soon capitulated in front of students who besieged the office of vice chancellor.

The students demanded the administration to expel the student or they would lynch him. They closed all gates of the university and demanded that they won't open the gates until the notification for his expulsion is issued. The VC later issued the notification suspending the said student after which the gates were opened.

The suspect was sent to prison on the orders of deputy commissioner last month when the controversy arose.

In 2017, Mashal Khan, a student of Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan was lynched over similar allegations of blasphemy which were later proven wrong in the court. Some culprits were sent to jail, but the court released others on bail.
