Indian journalist and editor-in-chief of Republic TV Arnab Goswami was arrested in a suicide case on Wednesday.
Goswami was arrested in a suicide case of an interior designer who had named Goswami in the suicide note he wrote before taking his life.
The video of his arrest went viral on social media. According to Republic TV, Goswami was “manhandled” and “thrashed”.
“Encounter cop threatens and assaults Arnab Goswami; Republic Media Network's Editor-in-Chief taken away in police van” tweeted Republic TV.
Goswami has been controversial in the past few years for allegedly inciting communal violence.
He had also been named in an FIR by the president of Maharashtra Youth Congress in late April for allegedly spreading “communal hatred through his TV show and spreading fake news".
Last month Mumbai, police named three TV channels including Republic TV for spreading hate-speech to gain ratings.
