Contempt Of Court-Accused Firdous Ashiq Awan Should Not Be In Punjab Cabinet, Says AG
Punjab Advocate General Ahmed Awais has said that Firdous Ashiq Awan cannot be inducted in the provincial cabinet as she has not come clean on contempt of court charges. Firdous had been named as an alleged contemnor in Supreme Court's verdict in Justice Qazi Faez Isa presidential reference case.

Awais pointed to the remarks of the apex court that Awan had used contemptuous language against a sitting judge during a press conference. He said that the decision to appoint her as a special assistant to the chief minister undermines the verdict of the highest court.

The Supreme Court in its judgement in the case of Justice Qazi Faez Isa remarked that Firdous Ashiq Awan violated Article 204 of the constitution and broke rule thirteen of 2005 rules by using contemptuous language against a sitting judge.

Fayaz ul Hassan Chohan was removed from his post on Monday night in a cabinet shuffle and he was replaced by Firdous Ashiq Awan who will serve as Special Assistant to CM on Information. During an informal media talk, Chohan was asked by a reporter about his removal from the post. Chohan said that he was unaware of the news that he has been replaced by Firdous Ashiq Awan.

Awan had also been the special advisor to the Prime Minister on Information from 2019 to 2020.
