Opposition Behind Sedition FIR Against Nawaz Sharif, Says Shibli Faraz

Federal Minister for Information Shibli Faraz has denied the government’s involvement in registration of a sedition FIR former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

In a conference held after the Federal Cabinets meeting, Shibli Faraz addressed rumours regarding the government being responsible for FIR against PMLN leader Nawaz Sharif. He stated that Prime Minister Imran Khan and his government would not be involved in the matter.

“Anyone can register an FIR in this country, it is more likely that someone from the opposition has done this,” he said. “The Prime Minister does not have the time to go after FIRs,” he added.

The FIR in question was registered by a Pakistani citizen against various members of PML-N's top leadership, including its president Nawaz Sharif under charges of sedition, criminal conspiracy, and conspiracy to wage war against Pakistan. Addressing the FIR, Mr Faraz said that the people of Pakistan now have the option of two different leaders. On the one hand, they have Imran Khan, who is an honest politician without any business abroad and on the other is Nawaz Sharif who has business interests abroad, leading to a conflict of interest. "I am sure the Punjab government will investigate the FIR and find out who has done it," Mr Faraz stated.

Speaking about the Federal Cabinet meeting held earlier, Mr Fazar reported that various topics of national interest were discussed. The sugar and wheat stocks of the country were evaluated and reported to be adequate. He did note that prices of wheat in Karachi were higher because the Sindh government was not releasing sufficient wheat stocks in the market. Mr Faraz also explained that the price of wheat was higher in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa because of a recent spell of rains which had harmed the provincial output.
