Govt Using Covid SOPs As Justification To Arrest PDM Workers Ahead Of Gujranwala Rally
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government appears to be using Covid restrictions as a justification to arrest and book workers of opposition parties mainly Pakistan Muslim League - N (PML-N) ahead of their public meeting in Gujranwala tomorrow (Friday).

The newly-formed opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is all set to hold its first jalsa in Gujranwala.

According to PML-N, the Punjab police have been trying to stop their public show by arresting PDM workers from Lahore and other districts of Punjab.

Earlier on Wednesday, containers were placed in Raiwind after which the PML-N changed its plan pertaining to the party's Vice President Maryam Nawaz's departure in a caravan to reach Gujranwala for the rally.

Dawn.tv quoted a senior PML-N leader as saying that Maryam's departure strategy had to be reviewed in light of the government's 'intentions'. The leader also said that PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif had to spend a night at a worker's house in the walled city area to evade possible arrest, adding that Maryam may adopt a similar strategy if need be.
