CJ Gulzar Displeased With IG Islamabad For Failure To Identify Journalist Matiullah Jan’s Abductors
Supreme Court Wednesday rejected the report presented by Inspector General (IG) Islamabad police on the abduction of senior journalist Matiullah Jan.

The Supreme Court directed IG Islamabad Muhammad Amir Zulfiqar Khan to assign the investigation to a competent police officer or a committee of officers.

In the report presented by the police, they said that no institution could identify the kidnappers of the journalist. It stated that Nadra, FIA, Police and Safe City Project management could not succeed in identifying the kidnappers and the vehicles in which they held him.

According to the report, Nadra failed to identify the kidnappers as the CCTV footage of the incident was too blur. Similarly, FIA also failed to get any substantial evidence for the identification of kidnappers. Safe City Project management claimed that the area where the incident took place did not fall under their domain.

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed was displeased that the IG Islamabad failed to get any evidence while Attorney General Khalid Javed also showed his displeasure at the report.

Convenor of Journalist Defense Committee Jahangir Jadoon accused the police of eliminating the evidence, instead of investigating.

Matiullah Jan was abducted in the morning of 21 July, a day before his hearing in the case of contempt of court. He was released at midnight.
