All PML-N MNAs To Resign At Peak Of PDM Protests, Says Khawaja Asif

Former foreign minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif said on Thursday that when the Pakistan Democratic Movement's (PDM) anti-government protest reaches its pinnacle, all PML-N MNAs will resign.

These remarks were made while Khwaja Asif addressed PML-N's Convention of Parliamentarians and Ticketholders. On the occasion, he also criticized the government for its economic policies, saying, "It is the nation that continues to suffer from the government's incompetence."

Referring to PDM’s anti-government protests, Khwaja Asif declared that all party members in the National Assembly are motivated and willing to resign from their positions as part of the protest. "We will see then which electoral college the government uses to hold Senate elections," he challenged.

These claims were made after an All Parties' Conference held by the opposition last month. In the conference, the opposition formed the PDM alliance against the current government. However, despite heated debates, it could not decide upon resignation from the assemblies. PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif reportedly wanted to put the government under pressure through other tactics before adopting a more extreme measure of resignation.

According to recent reports by DAWN, PML-N has renewed efforts for anti-government protests. The party will observe black day on October 12, marking the military coup of former president General Pervez Musharraf. The party is also organizing its members for protests against the government, DAWN reported.
