PIMS Deputy Executive Director Booked For Sexually Harassing Nurse

Islamabad Police have registered a case against the deputy executive director of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) for allegedly harassing a female nurse.

In an FIR registered at Karachi Company police station, the nurse stated she was on routine duty when Deputy Executive Director Iqbal Durrani had summoned her to his office. When she arrived in his office, the officer attempted to sexually assault her but she escaped from scene unscathed.

According to details, the incident took place on September 1, 2020, when the senior nurse of Islamabad’s largest hospital had submitted a complaint to the executive director, accusing DED Iqbal Durrani of sexual harassment.

Initially, the PIMS senior management adopted delay tactics but on Friday the senior nurse managed to get her case registered against the deputy executive director.

Following the complaint, the nurse claimed that the hospital authorities started victimising her, such as the issuance of several show-cause notices. The nurse's duty was changed at least six times within a day in a bid to pressurise her into withdrawing the case.

In June 2018, the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences had issued an order urging strict compliance of the law protecting women against harassment at workplace.

According to The Nation, the notice said that the code of conduct under protection against harassment of women at the Workplace Act, 2010 is hereby circulated for the information of all the staff working in PIMS that the code of conduct is part of the policy of the hospital and its strict compliance is mandatory.
