Outrage As Woman Raped At Gunpoint On Lahore Motorway In Front Of Children
A woman was allegedly raped by two men at gunpoint in front of her children after her car ran out of gas near Gujjarpura, Lahore.
Police said the woman, a resident of Gujranwala, was returning to the city from Lahore on Tuesday night when her car ran out of petrol.
Geo News reported that the woman called her husband, who advised her to call Motorway Police for help until he got there. However, the Motorway Police operator excused from helping the woman, saying the emergency beat had not been assigned to anyone.
As she was left to her own devices on the deserted road, two armed men approached the vehicle and smashed its windows.
They then took the woman and her children out of the car and took them into a nearby field after cutting the fence along the road to rape her. The report said the woman was also deprived of Rs100,000, jewelry, and ATM cards.
The woman was later shifted to a hospital. Police have registered a case and the medical report of the survivor has been forwarded for forensic analysis.
Meanwhile, the Motorway Police said the area where the incident happened did not fall under their jurisdiction as the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway was completed recently and Motorway Police has not yet been handed over its charge.
Outrage on social media:
Following the reports of the rape, people on Twitter expressed concern over the state of lawlessness in the country and urged strong measures to put an end to such incidents.
I hope you leave this country safe and sound. I hope and pray that you don’t have to live with the trauma of the many crimes that this country and society can’t protect you against. I hope you are never forced to become resilient #motorwayincident #Motorway

Murder of #GulPanra and rape of a woman infront of her baby on motorway. Women and transgenders are not considered human but toys, they play with them and then throw them away without any mercy.#motorwayincident #JusticeforGulPanra #Motorway

Being a woman, I don’t feel safe in this society! What are we waiting for? When shall we wake up? Someone from us was targeted brutally in front of her innocent minors. This is not just a tragedy, its an act of extreme brutality. #HangRapist #motorwayincident

Getting incensed on a video shoot of an actress in a mosque, but staying perpetually silent about rapes and child molestation is where our priorities lie. While that instance could have been forgiven,#PublicHangingOfRapists#motorwayincident

In this country women can’t walk without getting catcalled, can’t work without being harassed, can’t travel without being raped. This country only belongs to men. Men can be rapists, pedophiles, harassers but they will never be held accountable. #motorwayincident

It feels terrible just thinking about what that mother would have went through! Please carry a pepper spray or anything sharp that’s available! Better take precautions then suffer!
Men cannot be trusted now.#motorwayincident
