Mansehra SHO Faces Inquiry Over Alleged Torture Of Pregnant Woman

Hazara Range Deputy Inspector General Qazi Jamilur Rehman has ordered an inquiry against Darband Police Station House Officer Muhammad Nawaz accused of torturing a pregnant woman in Oghi tehsil of Mansehra district.

As a result of the alleged torture by the SHO, the woman gave birth to a stillborn baby on Tuesday night.

DIG Rehman said he has formed a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Jamil Akhtar, asking it to produce a report on the incident within 24 hours, reported Dawn. He said strict departmental action would be taken against the SHO and others if they’re found to be involved in the alleged torture.

According to the victim, SHO Nawaz and other police officials scaled the wall of her house in Baradar village of Oghi tehsil at night and kicked and thrashed her. She said her husband was not home at that time.

Meanwhile, additional superintendent of police Jamil Akhtar met the woman’s husband, who claimed that the police raided the house falsely suspecting his involvement in narcotics sales. He said he would torch himself in the public if the authorities failed to provide him justice in the case.
