Karachi Cop Murdered By Fleeing Suspects

A sub-inspector of the Karachi Police was gunned down on main University Road by the unidentified suspects travelling in a white corolla.

Police said that Sub-Inspector Abdul Raheem, additional SHO of the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station, was killed in the encounter that took place near Samama shopping mall.

Dawn reported four suspects, including one in police uniform, were travelling in a car in PECHS Block-6 when the police signalled them to stop. However, the suspects tried to speed away, prompting a police chase during and an exchange of fire.

The report said the suspects got hurt in the exchange of gunfire and windowpanes of their car were smashed due to firing.

The car was spotted by SI Raheem near the Samama mall area. When the police team signalled the car to stop, they tried to flee under the cover of fire. As a result, Raheem was shot in his shoulder and later succumbed to wounds. The body of the slain police officer was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Meanwhile, a Karachi police spokesperson quoted by the newspaper said that eyewitnesses confirmed that the 'criminal elements' were seriously wounded in the exchange of gunfire.
