Dawn reported four suspects, including one in police uniform, were travelling in a car in PECHS Block-6 when the police signalled them to stop. However, the suspects tried to speed away, prompting a police chase during and an exchange of fire.

The report said the suspects got hurt in the exchange of gunfire and windowpanes of their car were smashed due to firing.

The car was spotted by SI Raheem near the Samama mall area. When the police team signalled the car to stop, they tried to flee under the cover of fire. As a result, Raheem was shot in his shoulder and later succumbed to wounds. The body of the slain police officer was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Meanwhile, a Karachi police spokesperson quoted by the newspaper said that eyewitnesses confirmed that the ‘criminal elements’ were seriously wounded in the exchange of gunfire.
