The government and opposition have reached a consensus on six out of eight bills related to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) after the former 'agreed to almost all the amendments put forth by the opposition' ahead of the National Assembly session.
The two sides agreed on the bills during a meeting between the government and the opposition representatives held at the official residence of Speaker Asad Qaiser on Tuesday. The bills were already passed by the standing committees; however, the government, later on, decided to take the opposition on board concerning these bills.
According to a report in Dawn, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Syed Naved Qamar hoped that bills would sail through the lower house of parliament after this agreement.
Speaking about the two bills which were deferred for want of more discussions, Qamar said talks on the Anti-Money Laundering (Second Amendment) Bill 2020 and the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill 2020 would be held soon.
The bills on which the two sides have reached an understanding are: the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2020, the Limited Liability Partnership (Amendment) Bill 2020, the Companies (Amendment) Bill 2020, the Control of Narcotic Substances (Amendment) Bill 2020, the Control of Narcotics Substances (Amendment) Bill 2020, the Islamabad Capital Territory Waqf Properties Bill 2020 and the Islamabad Capital Territory Trust Bill 2020.
