Woman Allegedly Changes Gender To Marry Girl, LHC Forms Board For Inquiry

In a case of its kind, the Lahore High Court has ordered to constitute a medical board to ascertain the gender of a 'woman' allegedly pretending to be a man to marry a girl.

The accused tied the knot with a 16-year-old girl in Rawalpindi through court marriage, without taking permission of any of the respective families, Dawn reported.

The girl's father approached the Rawalpindi bench of the court, seeking his daughter's custody as he said that her 'husband', the accused, is actually a woman.

According to the counsel of the complainant Amjad Janjua, the accused had resorted to changes in his Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) to marry the girl. He said the accused also made changes to his driver's for the purpose.

Janjua revealed that the 'man' was a tenant of his complainant, working as a teacher at a school nearby, and had been known at the time as a woman. He further said that all of the other documents proved that the accused is a female.

However, the accused denied being a woman, saying 'he is a man'. At this, the bench Wednesday ordered the formation of a medical board to determine the exact gender of the accused.
