Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi has unsuccessfully attempted to defend Zulfiqar Mirza – the leader of PTI’s coalition party GDA in Sindh – who supported Lyari gangster Uzair Baloch through thick and thin, according to the JIT report presented by the minister himself.

Ali Zaidi flourished a JIT report of his own before the media on Tuesday, saying it was the ‘original’, while the one released by the Sindh government was a different version. He said that the JIT report he had shared carried the same statements as those recorded by Baloch before a judicial magistrate.

According to the report, Uzair Baloch’s family was affiliated with the PPP and he himself remained a part of the PPP “since his childhood”. He confessed that Zulfiqar Mirza was one of his closest friends in PPP, “who supported Uzair Baloch with arms and finances on the direction of Asif Ali Zardari”.

It is pertinent to mention here that even after Uzair Baloch’s arrest, Zulfiqar Mirza publicly extended his full support to the Lyari gangster, calling him his ‘brother’ on media.

When journalist Shahzaib Khanzada asked Zaidi about the links of Uzair baloch and Zulfiqar Mirza on his show, he started defending the latter on grounds that he had confessed everything. “Zulfiqar Mirza is answerable to courts. I have sent the JIT report to PM Imran, he will decide what to do with Mirza in this regard,” he added.
