Islamabad High Court Orders Govt To Produce Matiullah Jan In Court Tomorrow

Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Athar Minallah has ordered the authorities concerned to produce abducted journalist Matiullah Jan in court on Wednesday.

The directives of the IHC chief justice came in response to a writ petition filed by the brother of the missing journalist, who had pleaded the court for the recovery of his elder sibling.

Justice Minallah said the Islamabad police chief, the interior secretary, and chief commissioner will have to appear before him in person if the detained journalist is not recovered.

Earlier in the day, Shahid Akbar Abbasi approached the high court with a request for the recovery of his brother. According to Abbasi, his brother was detained when he was coming to pick his wife from a government school in G-6/3. "However, his wife found him missing when she came out from the school," he apprised the court.

According to the plea, the doors of the vehicle were unlocked, with keys still in the ignition, and the cellphone of the missing journalist was also found under the car seat. Abbasi said that his brother was jobless for the past few months.

He added that Matiullah Jan was also a vocal critic of the state and establishment policies.
