On Tuesday, Qureshi said he had shifted home after receiving treatment for the coronavirus and undergoing plasma therapy at Military Hospital, Rawalpindi.

On July 3, the foreign minister tested positive for the virus and quarantined himself soon after developing fever. According to his Twitter post, Qureshi had maintained that he felt 'strong and energetic' and that he would continue to serve on his post from home. However, according to his spokesperson, he was taken to the hospital on July 4.

Many politicians, including those from the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have earlier tested positive for the virus during the past few months. According to latest statistics, the current number of confirmed cases in the country stand at 259,999. The number of recoveries across Pakistan is 183,737, while the total deaths are 5,475.
