Bolan Medical College Students Continue Protests Demanding Removal Of VC Over 'Unethical Behaviour'

The students of Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUMHS) Saturday blocked Quetta's Manan Chowk as they protested the authorities' inaction on their demands including the removal of the Vice Chancellor Dr Naqeebullah Achakzai and provision of basic amenities at the hostels.

The protesters raised slogans for their demands, warning they would go on an indefinite hunger strike if their demands are not met. They demanded for the institution to be converted back to its status of a college.

Achakzai was appointed as the vice chancellor in 2018 by then governor Mohammad Khan Achakzai. The decision was subsequently challenged in Balochistan High Court because the post requires a Phd while the VC possessed qualification equivalent to a Master's degree.

"The dictated VC by governor has thoroughly failed to solve the most basic issue of BUMHS," Sabiha Baloch, an MBBS student at the institute said in her Twitter post "Once again, we are protesting in front of provincial assembly against unethical behavior of the VC and unavailability of water, electricity, gas and other basic facilities in hostels," she added.

In February, police arrested several students of Bolan University of Medical College in Quetta for protesting against the Vice Chancellor of the university against fee hikes and other issues. Video clips doing the rounds on social media show police manhandling the protesters including female students.
