Following the Chaman border firing incident in which three people including a woman were reportedly shot dead, Balochistan government has asked the federal government to block internet services in the province’s Killa Abdullah district, saying “some elements are uploading anti-state material on social media”.
Balochistan Home and Tribal Affairs Department, in a letter written to centre on Thursday, said that the law and order situation in Chaman has ‘deteriorated’ after the Chaman border firing incident.
“Anti-state/illegal material is being uploaded by some elements on social media in District Killa Abdullah. It is therefore requested to please convey necessary directions to all concerned for blockade/closure of internet facility with immediate effect till three days,” the letter read.
On Thursday, three people including a woman were killed while 13 others sustained injuries in firing at a protest against the closure of border in Chaman, Balochistan. The protestors were demanding the relevant authorities to re-open the Pak-Afghan Chaman border that was closed due to the coronavirus lockdown. Reportedly, the security forces opened fired at the un-armed protestors killing three people including a woman.
Later, Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove held a press conference in Quetta in this regard. He said that the protestors who were killed, had entered ‘red-zone’ area to cross the border. “They had also damaged government offices, including a quarantine centre and NADRA office,” he added.
