Arrested Journalist’s Deceased Wife Had Tweeted Revealing Thread On Domestic Abuse
Sadaf Zahra, the late wife of Salman Alvi – a journalist who was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife – had shared a revealing and thought-provoking Twitter thread on domestic violence, five months before her murder.

Sadaf took to Twitter to spoke her heart out on domestic violence and how women are often asked to stay silent about it. “Domestic abuse is an incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening, degrading and violent behaviour. Unfortunately, domestic abuse or violence against women is on the rise these days.”

She said that ever since she gained consciousness, life acted as an eye opener for her. “I have been keenly observing that words 'patience', 'tolerance' and 'adjustments', ‘compromise’ are solely associated with women [in our society]. Before getting hitched, we’re lectured about spending entire life ahead with compromises & inducing flexibility in our disposition. We are taught to make adjustments in all kinds of circumstances putting our self-worth at stake too if the times call for so,” she added.

Talking about the culture of silence with respect to domestic violence, she said: “We are instructed to keep personal matters (related to married life) to ourselves, which is a good notion. But what if the matters consist of abuse, violence, curse & toxic relationship? Domestic violence IS NOT a private matter whether it happens within the four walls of a home or out in the open. Call people out on it please so if nothing else at least they will feel some shame!”

In the end, she expressed her desire to attend Aurat March. “That’s okay if some of the women don’t want to be a part of the #AuratMarch2020, but please don’t belittle those who march for OUR rights,” she added.

Sadaf’s husband, Salman Alvi was arrested on Wednesday after a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against him, charging him for his wife’s murder.

According to the FIR, “the deceased was found with marks on her hand and face,” along-with the one on her neck, which became the cause of the death. It also stated that the investigation in the case is ongoing, but from the account of the victim’s sister, it appears to be a case of murder.
