Appointment Of Fazlur Rehman's Non-Civil Servant Brother As DC Karachi Raises Eyebrows
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman's younger brother Ziaur Rehman, who was an officer at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)'s provincial management services has been appointed as the deputy commissioner of Karachi's Central District despite him hailing from KP.

The move has raised eyebrows and several quarters including the opposition parties have disapproved of the provincial government's decision. It is being said that merit was flouted in appointing him as the DC of a key Karachi district as he is not a civil servant.

On Thursday, the Sindh government issued a notification posting Ziaur Rehman as the deputy commissioner of Karachi’s Central district by transferring Farhan Ghani, an ex-PCS officer also in grade-19.

The development is said to be the result of a meeting held between Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the PPP leadership including former president Asif Ali Zardari and the party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Rehman’s appointment has generated criticism from PTI and MQM on the grounds that he has no prior experience with administrative work in the province.
