Zafar Mirza Says Won't Follow WHO's Lockdown Recommendation
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza has refused to implement World Health Organisation’s recommendation of imposing a two-week lockdown across the country.

He said that the WHO has authority over health-related concerns of the people while the government of Pakistan has to take into account the economic conditions of the country as well. He expressed these views during a live show on Samaa TV.

He also reiterated that the severity of the coronavirus contagion can be curbed only if people start following the SOPs put in place by the government.

As news reports suggest some private medical facilities are charging more than Rs100,000 for just one night, which is more than what they are supposed to charge.

Dr Mirza reminded the people that commissions for health care are present in three provinces- Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where they are responsible for checking the price and quality of healthcare of private hospitals.

He felt sorry about the state of affairs that people want to exploit the marginalised in times of need.

Pakistan has unfortunately reported over 111,000 COVID-19 infections and 2,216 fatalities. He also said that it will get worse in the upcoming weeks.

He also said that 1,000 beds will be given to all provinces based on their needs by the federal government.
