Allama Talib Jauhari, one of Pakistan’s most renowned religious scholars, passed away on Sunday at the age of 80. Riaz Jauhari, the scholar’s son confirmed the demise on Monday while talking to news channels. The deceased is survived by three sons.

Earlier, the late scholar was admitted to a hospital in Karachi due to cardiovascular complications. He was put on a ventilator after his condition deteriorated. He was reportedly receiving treatment for a heart condition for the past several days. A news report confirmed that the scholar did not have the coronavirus.

The scholar’s demise came as a shock for the countrymen, as generations were accustomed to listening to his majlis every year. He was well known for his powerful oratory and narration of the events of the Karbala. In this context, he was also a historian, a poet and a philosopher.

Allama Jauhari was also the author of several books wherein he covered the areas of history, tafseer, and philosophy. One of his books, Hadees-e-Karabla is regarded as a brilliantly authored piece on the battle of Karbala. Another book ‘Alamaat-e-Zahoor-e-Mehdi’ (AS) covers the subject comprehensively.

His narration of the tragedy of Karbala which is telecast on TV on Ashura, 10th Muharram every year, is popular among Shias and Sunnis alike.

He was born on August 27, 1938 in Patna, British India and studied Islamic theology during his educational years in Najaf, Iraq. During his stay there, he received education directly under Ayatullah al Uzma Sayyid Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei and late Ayatullah Sayyid Baqir Al Sadr.

Allama Jauhari was also the recipient of Sitara-e-Imtiaz. The noted orator’s father was also a well-known scholar and a poet known for his exceptional way of describing the household of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Meanwhile, political and religious leaders have expressed sorrow over the death of the renowned scholar and prayed for patience for the bereaved family.
