In an interesting developing, Pakistan's memorable play Dhoop Kinare will be aired in Saudi Arabia soon, the first time that PTV will dub local television content for Saudi viewers.
“The information ministry will send it to Saudi Arabia through our foreign office, PTV's Director for International Relations Shazia Sikander told Arab News on Thursday. “We are also contacting different media houses in the Kingdom, in case they are interested in exchange of dramas or buying our dubbed content.”
Sikander hoped the move will bring international recognition towards local productions, as well as help the Saudi nationals comprehend the Pakistani culture. She hinted that the play would then be aired further in United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The report quoted Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry as saying that when Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, became the Saudi culture minister, “the idea once again came under discussion during my visit to the Kingdom,” and, “he was very kind and promised to support my initiative of broadening the cultural relationship between the two brotherly Muslim countries.”
On Wednesday, a post from the Twitter handle of the minister had confirmed the development.

News reports suggest Pakistan had decided to export the play as well as Tanhaaiyan and Aahat a few years ago, but the plan could not be materialised due to unavailability of funds. It was not immediately clear if Pakistan would also air a piece from the Saudi Arabia along the lines of the Turkish play Dirilis: Ertugrul.
