PIA Cuts Salaries Of Officers, Pilots

PIA Cuts Salaries Of Officers, Pilots
The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has levied a salary cut across the board for all pilots and officers, except the people employed on lower and non-officer grade.

As a response to this, the Pakistan Airlines Pilots Associations (Palpa) have been disappointed and termed the practice highly unjust.

A PIA spokesperson, as reported by Dawn, said that the workers in the aviation industry have been hit by the coronavirus situation all around the world and many airlines have been letting people go.

The spokesperson also said that PIA has been suffering the loss of business that used to come from 110 departures a day, and has now reduced to 10 per day. “We have to cut on a lot of expenses to stay afloat,” he said.

The amount that will be deducted from the salaries will be at the rate of 10pc on salary between Rs100,000-200,000; 15pc on salary between Rs200,000-300,000; 20pc on salary between Rs300,000-500,000 and 25pc on salary above Rs500,000.

He said that it will be a tough decision but also necessary.

“All other cadres have accepted the deduction.”

Palpa however has claimed that the pilots are being punished for raising their voice against the ill-equipped conditions of flights to deal with the coronavirus and unavailability of PPE.
