The Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) has temporarily suspended the rule of deducting 15 per cent from the total marks obtained by the O’ and A’ Level students intending to pursue studies in the higher educational institutions of Pakistan.
The IBCC, which is a body responsible for giving equivalence to foreign qualification, corresponding to the local educational certificates, has made this decision in view of the ongoing situation due to the coronavirus and the consequent lockdown, Express Tribune reported.
The decision was taken at a recent meeting held at the IBCC’s Steering Committee led by Dr Shehzad Jeeva.
However, to make the process transparent, it has sought record of the students from the foreign educational authorities, namely the Cambridge Assessment International Examination, the International Baccalaureate, American System of Education, and others.
The report further said that decision was taken to adopt a uniform policy for the matriculation and intermediate students as well as the foreign-affiliated students to ensure their smooth transition to the institutes of higher education in the country.
The IBCC also decided that the students who appeared in the country-specific subjects will be given passing marks, while those who did not appear in the exams will be able to participate in special exams.
Earlier, the Cambridge, IB, and other educational institutions abroad decided to cancel the exams of May-June, 2020 period to keep the safety of the students intact during the pandemic.
