LAHORE: Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has made yet another controversial decision on Thursday telling all its hostel students to physically appear at the campus and complete the hostel checkout process. The instructions have come at a time when the COVID-19 cases are rising at an alarming pace in the country.

“As the annual maintenance and refurbishment of hostel rooms is about to start therefore you are asked to visit campus to officially complete your check-out from the hostel”, an email to the hostilities by the LUMS administration said.

The campus had been closed down in March when the government had announced nationwide lockdowns. Although most sectors of the economy have already been opened now, the educational institutions continue to remain closed across the country due to the fear of the spread of the virus.

Most students had left all their belongings at the hostel. However, the lockdown prolonged, and now the varsity has told the students to come back and take their belongings so that the annual process of renovation of the hostel can begin.

“We want to refurbish the dorms so that in the case we are open partially or in full in the fall we are able to provide good accommodations to our students,” wrote Adnan Khan, the Dean at the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) at LUMS.
