Hamid Mir To Become Party In SC Case Against Cleric Threatening Justice Isa

Senior journalist Hamid Mir, who was named in the viral video of the cleric threatening Supreme Court judge Justice Isa and the judiciary, has filed a plea with the top court to become a party in the case. He later received an apology by the cleric's son and the counsel in court premises.

The two, however, did not reveal, despite being asked repeatedly by the journalist, as to who was behind taping the video of Agha Iftikharuddin and posting the edited piece on the social media.

Earlier, the journalist requested, through his counsel Jahangir Jadoon, that he may be made party in the suo motu case as he had been mentioned in the video in question.

The cleric was arrested from the top court's premises and was subsequently issued by the court to appear in the case on July 2. The SC also summoned FIA director-general to assist the court in the matter.

On June 19, the top court quashed the presidential reference against Justice Qazi Faez Isa and ordered an end to the proceedings against him in the Supreme Judicial Council. It also asked the Federal Board of Revenue to hold inquiry into the properties of Justice Isa’s wife and children and submit the report to the SJC within 75 days.
