G-9 Islamabad Sealed After Being Declared Covid-19 Hotspot

ISLAMABAD: The federal capital of Islamabad is turning into a hotspot of COVID-19 as the Islamabad administration sealed the G-9 sector following more than 400 cases that were reported from the sector. These cases spiked the tally of the total cases to 7,163 with 71 deaths, says a notification issued from the District Commissioner Office Islamabad.


Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqat told Naya Daur that G-9 sector of the federal capital are on highest risk of the deadly virus as more than 400 cases reported from the sector following that on the recommendation of health expert the district administration decided to seal the sector from Saturday onwards to further combat the spread of the virus. He added that two sub-sectors of G-9 sealed G-9/3, G-9/2 including the Markaz of the sector he added.


He added that the health experts of the ministry of health and Islamabad’s administration health officials recommended sealing G-9 area due to the highest number of cases and that’s Rangers, Pak army and Islamabad police were called to cordoned off the area and restrict every movement and function in the area to combat the spread of the pandemic.


It is pertinent to mention here that Karachi Company Markaz (G-9) is the biggest market of Islamabad having thousands of shops and mostly the middle and lower-middle-class for shopping but in the last quarter of Ramzan, after easing lockdown, thousands of visitors arrived on daily basis in the markets for Eid shopping. While the capital administration and police totally failed to implement the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) due to which the sector turned into a hotspot of the deadly virus and now the administration had to seal the sector to further combat the virus.


On Saturday morning G-9 sub-sectors including Markaz were cordoned off by the Islamabad police and Pakistan army and no one was allowed to enter or leave the premises of the sector as all entrance and exit locations were blocked by the forces and barricades were installed.


According to the data available with this scribe six others areas of Islamabad marked dangerous for COVID-19 highest cases and the administration told that the health experts of the ministry of health that they are monitoring these six areas and if the cases increase, the next step is no other option but to seal all these six premises to combat the spread of the virus.


The data shows that the I-8 sector of Islamabad is the second most dangerous sector and a hotspot of the COVID-19 as 163 infections were reported from the sector. The third highest COVID-19 hotspot is the I-10 sector of Islamabad where 113 infections of the deadly virus were reported, Ghauri Town, Barakahu, and G-7 are on the fourth-highest risk of the deadly virus and each area reported 98 infections. While the fifth-highest number of infections reported sector is G-6 which infection number is 93 according to the data available. The Deputy Commissioner told that sector G-7 is under constant observation of the administration as 7 deaths have been reported from the sector in 72 hours.


On June 6, Islamabad reported the highest number of infections 656 while in the past 48 hours the country capital reported more than 900 new infections and the total number of coronavirus cases jumped to 7,163.
