FIA Agrees To Register Case Against Cynthia Ritchie

FIA Agrees To Register Case Against Cynthia Ritchie
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday has submitted a reply with respect to the petition filed against Cynthia D. Ritchie for her disrespectful comments on former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

Additional Sessions Judge Ata Rabbani in Islamabad heard the case as the judge on duty. He said that the petitioner had complained of no action being taken against the blogger for slandering Benazir Bhutto on social media.

The court has issued a notice to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority in light of the slander and they have demanded a reply in terms of action taken by June 13.

The counsel for the petition had said that the FIA has finally confirmed a case that will be registered against Ritchie. The court has also demanded an answer from the US blogger for the bad-mouthing of slain Pakistani leader, Benazir Bhutto.

Her tweet about the late PM had triggered a cold war between the members of PPP and the ardent followers because of their sentiments being hurt.

Later, Ritchie made a statement accusing Rehman Malik for having raped her and Yousuf Raza Gillani for manhandling her on certain occasions.

She also wrote a letter to the FIA explaining her position, earlier, which said, "I am a freelancer and pay taxes to FBR and report my income to IRS in USA. I am not on government payroll. I take projects (such as KP Dept of Archaeology/Engro/and some cleared NGOS) as matters of personal and professional interest," adding that she has been living and working peacefully in Pakistan for the past 10+ years.

She also mentioned the investigative documentary about Bilawal Bhutto that she has been working on. She thinks that he could be a potential future leader of Pakistan and hence she has no interest in fighting the PPP.

Last week, the PPP advocate had moved a complaint with the FIA's cybercrime wing against Ritchie for her "slanderous" remarks against late party leader Benazir Bhutto.

"Through this application, it is brought to your notice that a woman, who goes by the name of Cynthia D Ritchie on Twitter has passed extremely derogatory and slanderous remarks about Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, through her Twitter handle/account," the letter dated May 28 read.
