Balochistan Lawyers Lodge FIR Against Threats To Justice Isa, Condemn Attempts To 'Silence Judiciary'

QUETTA: The lawyers of Balochistan on Saturday lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against those threatening Supreme Court Judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa, saying the culprits should be arrested forthwith.

Later, addressing a press conference, representatives of the lawyers bodies said the threats were actually tactics to silence the judiciary. They demanded that strict action be taken against those involved in the ill practice against the senior judge.

The representatives also announced that they would resist the move with full force amid the support of the masses. They went on to term the presidential reference against the judge an 'attack' on the independence of the judiciary.

On Friday, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to a religious cleric Agha Iftikharuddin who had hurled threats at Justice Isa and used derogatory language against him and other judges of the superior court in a video that went viral on social media.

Earlier on Wednesday, Justice Isa’s wife Sarina Isa lodged a first information report (FIR) in Islamabad’s Secretariat Police Station against the video and the threats hurled toward the judge.

The top court quashed the presidential reference against Justice Qazi Faez Isa on June 19 and ordered an end to the proceedings against him in the Supreme Judicial Council. It also asked the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to hold inquiry into the properties of Justice Isa’s wife and children and submit the report to the SJC within 75 days.
