2 Balochistan Journalists Allegedly Detained, Tortured For Accusing FC Of Corruption

Two journalists who had reportedly been arrested three days ago have returned with severe torture marks on their bodies.

Saeed Ali Achakzai, a senior reporter of Samaa News and former chairman of Chaman Press Club, and Abdul Mateen Achakzai, a reporter of Khyber News had disappeared. Following the news, many Balochistan-based journalists and human rights activists had urged the authorities to ensure an early recovery.

According to the journalist who posted the news, Deputy Commissioner Bashir Barresi told Mashaal Radio that the duo had 'falsely' accused FC of corruption. They had criticised the FC over inadequate quarantine facilities in Chaman.

Earlier, local journalists had claimed that they the duo was arrested by ‘security forces’ under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). According to journalist Hameedullah Sherani said, “both were shifted to Machh Jail under 3MPO [Section 3 of Maintenance Public Order].” They local circles had expressed concerns over the state of press freedom, saying the two journalists were arrested without any crime.
