Pakistan Conducts Highest Number Of Coronavirus Cases In 24 Hours
Pakistan conducted 14,878 coronavirus tests on Friday, May 16, which is as of now, the highest number of tests conducted as per a single day. 

Express Tribune reported that the number was conveyed to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) was informed.

In an NCOC meeting, held by the Minister for Planning Development Reforms and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, the testing capacity was discussed, which has increased by 30 times. The country had two labs to test Covid-19 samples in mid-March and now has 70 laboratories.

Furthermore, provincial chief secretaries, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), updated on the implementation of health protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) since the decisions that were taken on May 9. 

During the meeting, Asad Umar expressed concern for the lack of awareness that prevails among the people, nationwide, regarding the SOPs and the dangers of not following them. He said that public education can improve that.

The forum also passed a consensus that the market associations and trader organisations must ensure compliance of SOPs issued by the health ministry. In case of non-compliance, the particular market as a whole would be closed for failing to ensure collective responsibility.

Eid prayer congregations will take place, along with the implementation of SOPs devised for industries and markets.

The forum also mentioned that the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Relief was going to resume distribution on Monday where the SOPs devised for public safety should be ensured to contain the pandemic.

According to the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Relief, around Rs104 billion had been distributed among 8 million beneficiaries through, and a Rs50 billion assistance package was being prepared to aid 3.5 million small and medium businesses. 

Additionally, a Rs50 billion agricultural relief package for farmers was also announced and the health sector is also allocated a sum of Rs50 billion.
